Nivea Skincare Review 2018: Skin Care Now With Nivea

As far as skincare brands go, Nivea has been at the forefront of developing the latest technologies, methods and products for well over a century now. I think that’s a pretty good indication of how successful the brand has been as well how much consumers seem to enjoy using Nivea products.

With the plethora of different brands and products that are available on the market today, it can be difficult to find a brand that really works for you and your skin.

I for one have spent years going through one skin cream, moisturizer or lip balm after another in the hopes that they will be ‘the brand’ for me. One of the few brands I seem to keep returning to is Nivea largely because their products are effective, good quality and reasonably priced.

Naturally, we all want the best for our skin, but in a day and age where we’re exposed to an increasingly large amount of air pollutants, toxic chemicals in our food and products as well as record high stress levels, it’s easy for our skin to become tired and undernourished.

This means that we need a product that not only protects us against these harmful elements, but also act to heal, hydrate and nourish our skin at the same time.

Each and every Nivea product is designed to do exactly this and I hope that by giving you an overview of this brand and a few of their most popular products, you’ll have a good idea of why using Nivea is the one of the best ways to encourage natural aging and maintain healthy, vibrant skin over time.

Nivea Company Background Breakdown

Nivea was formed in 1882 by a chemist known as Paul Carl Beiersdorf however, the company only really started making the kind of products it’s now famous for when it was acquired by one Oscar Troplowitz.

Troplowitz’s lead dermatologist at the time, one Paul Gerson Unna, was the one credited with having discovered Eucerit, an innovative new emulsifying agent that could be added to creams in order to increase their moisturizing properties.

This became one of the key ingredients in Nivea products and has been included in their range ever since. It was used to help develop the now famous Nivea Creme – a product that has defined this brand and essentially hasn’t changed since it’s original inception, despite a tumultuous history.

Having navigated the brand through 2 world-wars, Nivea managed to climb from strength to strength, building on each success in order to form a company that has stood the test of time.

They have expanded their product range to include everything from moisturizers, lip balms, sanitizers and anti-aging creams  to shaving creams, body washes and shampoos. Nivea is basically a one-stop brand for almost every kind of personal product you can imagine – they even have deodorants.

As far as personal care brands go, Nivea has certainly had one of the most interesting and exciting company histories I’ve read about.

While one may think that they’re a little out of date, simply because they’ve been around for such a long time, the truth is that somehow, Nivea has always been able to stay at the cutting edge of skincare technology for over a century. If that isn’t a testament to what makes a brand strong, I don’t know what is!

Nivea Top 10 Products 2018 Overview

After years of trial and error with regards to their products and formulas, it’s easy for us to place Nivea at the top of the long list that is personal care products. However, there is one issue that reviewers may experience when addressing this brand and it’s something that took me awhile to get a grasp on.

Where do you start when you have to deal with one of the largest product lists of any personal care brand and how do you position the brand as a whole? Do you focus on their haircare products and other personal care products( lip balms, deodorants, body washes, shampoos etc.) or stick to what made them famous – skin care?

So, to make it easier for both you and me, I’ve decided to share 10 of my favorite Nivea products that I would recommend trying out in 2018.

Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion Review

Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion

When it comes to dealing with dry, flaky or irritable skin, there isn’t much better for your skin than Nivea’s In Shower Firming Body Lotion Review. This is like conditioner for your skin and can really help to make your showering experience much better for your skin overall.

Conventional soaps and body washes are generally loaded with artificial chemical ingredients that do a great deal of harm to our skin and ultimately worsen the quality of our skin and can cause it to dry out even faster.

This is due to the fact that the gentle acid mantle that lines the surface of our skin can be washed away with the continued use of these products. By replenishing your skin’s natural protective barrier whilst showering, you actively give it a protective layer that helps to lock moisture in over the course of the day.

This barrier not only helps to lock moisture in, and keep your skin feeling supple and hydrated, but it also helps restore the protective acid mantle layer on our skin. This ultimately helps to keep our skin balanced and at the right pH level for it to stay in good condition over a longer period of time.

When your skin is balanced it can protect itself better over the course of the day and against a variety of different factors. If you want to encourage natural aging or prevent the onset of wrinkles too early as well as reduce the signs of dry, flaky skin – I’d recommend using this as part of your daily cleansing routine.

Nivea Lip Balm Review

Nivea offers everyday lip care – my favorite of which is their Mint and Minerals Refreshing Lip Care. It uses shea butter and jojoba oil to keep lips soft and refreshed, and the extra peppermint in the formula helps it feel like an upgraded version of Burt’s Bees Lip Balm. In terms of indulgent lip care, I like to use Nivea’s Raspberry Rose Lip Butter, which uses a hydrating formula containing almond oil and Vitamin-E in order to enhance lips.

Nivea Body Wash Review

Nivea Body Wash

The Nivea range of body wash products are definitely worth trying out if you’re the kind of person who detests using soap bars and need a soap that is both mild on your skin, yet effective at keeping it clean. Nivea is one of the few brands I’ve come across that manages to strike this balance closely and is definitely one I’d recommend for those who are need that ‘in-between’ kind of product.

Much like the In Shower Body Lotion, the Nivea Body Wash helps to reduce the amount of strain your skin takes whilst in the shower. It actively works to replenish nutrients and vitamins lost over the course of the day and can definitely do wonders for dry, irritable or sensitive skin types.

By including the moisturizer in your showering process, you can redefine your showering experience, helping to keep yourself free of germs and bacteria (the main reason we shower), whilst also keeping your skin smooth and supple.

In order to receive similar results you usually have to use a variety of different products, however, the body wash manages to condense all of these into one simple and effective product that not only leaves your skin fresh and clean after a shower, but moist and soft as well.

Nivea Deodorant Review

Nivea deodorants come in both roll-on and spray form and are designed for long-lasting effects. I know that a lot of deodorant brands claim to offer long-lasting protection, but I’ve seen the best results from Nivea, and they offer pleasantly scented deodorant to boot.

Nivea Soft Moisturizing Face Cream Review

Nivea Soft Moisturizing Cream

I enjoy using Nivea Soft Moisturizing Cream for drier areas of skin like my elbows and knees and find it particularly effective at re-hydrating my skin quickly and effectively, without leaving a greasy layer on the surface. If you have particularly dry facial skin, try the soft moisturizing cream for best results, but try it anyway for those drier areas of the body – you won’t regret that you did.

Nivea Cellulite Cream Review

This wondrous little product attacks cellulite dimples by boosting circulation in “problem areas” and hydrating the skin. Basically, if you want the same expensive treatment that celebrities get for cellulite but in a much more affordable and convenient capacity, this is the product for you.

Nivea After Shave Balm Review

Nivea Post Shave Balm

The dual-effect offered by the shave balm both repairs and regenerates the skin while at the same time moisturizing the skin with Vitamin-E and Provitamin-B5. Nivea’s Q10 Energy Double Action Balm takes this moisturization to another level with a formula containing Coenzyme Q10, which is designed to aid the moisture-challenged. I personally prefer the Q10 Energy Double Action as I find that it provides the same skin repair and regeneration while also offering top-notch moisturization.

Nivea Shaving Cream Review

Made to protect skin against razor burn and other irritations, Nivea pre-shaving products use aloe vera gel to soothe and protect the skin while priming it for the ideal shaving experience. Chamomile extract and Vitamin-E used in the formulas promote skin health, while extra thick lathering effects help achieve a closer and smoother shave than you’ve ever had before.

Nivea Firming Lotion Review

Nivea Skin Firming Body Lotion

Using the same “Hydra IQ Skin Technology” utilized in Nivea Body Wash, the skin firming lotion is proven to tighten and firm skin in as little as two weeks, while also boosting vitality and vibrancy. The formula even tones the appearance of skin and moisturizes for up to 24-hours. While skin firming is the goal, this is truly an all-purpose lotion, and one that anyone would benefit from using.

Nivea Lip Butter Review

nivea flavored lip butter
Nivea Lip Butter

Sometimes a simple lip-balm simply won’t cut it, and having a good idea of what you want for your lips can really go a long way in terms of helping you make the right decisions. Our lips are really sensitive and need to be treated with the utmost care to ensure that they don’t become dry or cracked. This can be really painful and even lead to bleeding – something no ones wants for themselves (especially during cold, dry winters or hot, windy summers).

In terms of indulgent lip care, I like to use Nivea’s Raspberry Rose Lip Butter, which uses a hydrating formula containing almond oil and Vitamin-E in order to enhance lips and, hello, tastes like raspberries! What could possibly be better?? Use Nivea Lip Care in order to fix damaged lips, to keep your lips looking and feeling great, or if you’re feeling like your lips could use a little treat. Trust me, you deserve it.

Nivea Creme Review: My Results with Nivea Cream

original nivea creme
Nivea Creme

When it comes to moisturizers, Nivea Creme is easily one of the best products you can buy for your skin. The fact that’s it’s helped to define this brand in terms of its skincare range speaks volumes for just how effective this product is, and the fact that it’s been on the market longer than many of us can imagine (over a century now and counting) proves that it’s capable of standing the test of time.

Over time, the recipe has changed somewhat, at least in the EU, to accommodate for a range of new restrictions on ingredients that have otherwise been banned for use in personal products.

Other than that, the recipe hasn’t changed much at all and is still basically the same as it was a century ago. So if you’re looking for a safer and healthier option when it comes to skincare and moisturizing your skin, I’d recommend using the European version of the creme.

I remember my mother using this creme when I was growing up, and never thought I’d turn to using it myself. But after going through a slurry of different goops, creams and liquids – I turned to the tried and trusted Nivea Creme and found my niche’, so to speak.

The creme comes in the classic packaging that it’s now famed for (a blue tub which was originally a tin) that largely resembles the brands logo. I think this is fitting as it’s one of the products that really hones in on what this brand is all about – simple, effective healing products.

Is Nivea Cruelty Free? Does Nivea Test On Animals?

In short, no – Nivea is not 100% cruelty free as of yet which in turn means that they cannot be classified as vegan-friendly either. While the brand does make every attempt to ensure that all of their affiliates outside of China comply with cruelty-free standards, the company does still sell it’s products to China.

But what does China have to do with anything? The law in China states that all personal and cosmetics products must be tested on animals before they can be sold on the Chinese market. This means that while the brand itself may not support animal testing – one of their largest revenue streams explicitly mandates it by law.

Nivea have stated that they are trying to convince officials in the country to reconsider this law, arguing that it is unnecessary. However, only time will tell whether China will phase this law out or not. Until then, Nivea is not 100% cruelty-free and that’s that.

Conclusion

Nivea is a brand you can trust. They’re a brand I trust and are well-loved by millions of people around the world. This is largely because they use incredibly simple and effective methods to produce some pretty forward thinking personal care products and always seem to be one one step ahead of the curve.

I’d largely recommend looking for these products online as they’re a lot cheaper when you purchase them like that – especially if you’re looking for the healthier ‘chemical-free’ option that’s available in the EU.

Nivea products are generally available in every type of supermarket or chemist, so finding them shouldn’t be too much of challenge. I’d recommend trying one or two products out at first over the course of a month in order to get a better understanding of just how effective they can be on dry, irritable skin or various skin types in general.

Stop wasting money on expensive products that don’t give you the results you expect and start using Nivea today.
